A Non Fat, No Foam Jobs Plan

Jobs for USAThe president has been campaigning all over the country for his jobs bill. However, at least one business leader can’t wait for Congress to do something about the jobs situation.

Starbucks, the coffee giant, is doing something about it now. Howard Schultz, the CEO of Starbucks, has been very vocal as of late about the need for change in Washington and help for the unemployed. With their new Opportunity Finance Network, they are moving beyond talk and into the real work of building new jobs.

Starting in November, the customers of Starbucks can donate directly to the Opportunity Finance Network (OFN.) For every $5 that they receive, the OFN will provide $35 worth of community business financing in order to stimulate job creation among innovative, growing companies.

In addition, the Starbucks Foundation will be donating the first five million dollars toward the OFN.

Their goal? To help create and sustain new jobs in often underserved areas of the country. With an overall mission of returning America to job growth and economic prosperity, it is easy to feel like they won’t be able to make a difference. However, the new partnership holds great promise. They will be accelerating the impact of donations, as well as smartly directing those donations to where it matters most. Additionally, with the massive footprint of Starbucks, the campaign has the chance to get off to a rocking start.

Be sure to follow the campaign. You can follow their Twitter feed here and check out their website for new announcements. With some luck, more employers will join up with Starbucks and the OFN to promote the cause and make donations.
