Jenn,

This article was originally written in the summer of 2009 with no complete data for the year. I selected to highlight this report since it at least provided some analysis for the trends in 2009. I researched numerous job board reports, and they all pointed to the dismal numbers for 2009.

I tried finding the report you referenced, and was not able to locate it via google. Please post a link to it here and I will read it, and the readers can also. I always appreciate legitimate research, and try to educate jobseekers to be critical thinkers. And you are correct, with a continually/quickly changing job market it is important to look to as recent data/trend information that is available.

Thanks for posting...August

August,

I understand your position on the fact that job boards should only be a part of your job search strategy but...the numbers you are quoting for success rates are old and incorrect. Why would you use numbers from 2008 to make a point in 2010? The job market has changed drastically during that time.

Weddle's Source of Employment Survey in 2009 found that 35.4% of people found their last job through an ad on a job board.

This number is more accurate because job boards are a fantastic starting point to find out who is hiring and for what positions. Then you can start networking to get in front of that person.

Let's no discourage job seekers from any tools at their disposal.
