3 Questions to Ask on a Job Interview – Set Yourself Apart From the Others!

Dec 18th, 2009 | By Bill | Category: Employment News, Interviewing

In today’s economic times jobs are few and far between and there is a possibility if you are reading this that you may have even lost yours. I am sure you are aware that there are many others in your same shoes. Thus the job hunting process has become that much more difficult with reports of over a thousand people competing for one position. After getting your foot in the door and getting that face-to-face interview, it is now time to put your best foot forward and remember the main 3 questions to ask on a job interview.

Why is the position open?

This may be an obvious question to ask but is so often missed by interviewees. You not only gain information of possible performance deficiencies of the previous employee (to a point as personal info may not legally be disclosed) so that they won’t be repeated but, this is a great first question to ask as an “ice breaker” in order to get your portion of the Q and A session going.

What can I do to make the company more successful?

After you have learned more about the position, and you have an idea of how your skill sets would match, you might find that you have an exceptional skill that would allow you to contribute more than what is being asked. Thus, this is kind of an open-ended question as it acts as a nice segue way to really be able to bring that exceptional skill to the forefront.

Ask for the job!

Providing that you have done your due-diligence on the company and you like what you have discovered. And if your skill sets fit well with the position and you can see a future for yourself with the company, shake your interviewer’s hand as you depart, look directly into their eyes with confidence, and ask for the job or when they would like for you to start. I guarantee that this will firmly entrench you in the interviewer’s memory.
