Job Interview – 8 Last-Minute Tips For Surefire Job Interview Success

Below are a few suggestions that will help make your interview a success:
1. First, do your homework. Learn something about the employer before you arrive for the interview.
2. Try practicing with someone you know. Have them ask you questions that you are likely to encounter during the interview, so you are prepared to give the answers.
3. Be early. If you show up for the interview a few minutes before you are expected, it shows the employer that you value their time and that you can be counted on to be there when needed.
4. Even though your employer already has a copy of your resume and other documents you sent them, you should have extra copies on hand. If you have a portfolio of work samples (perhaps if you are a photographer or graphic artist), you will have samples available ready to show to the interviewer, who may or may not have brought those materials to the interview.
5. Dress and personal care are important. Taking care about your appearance shows your potential employer that you are taking the job seriously. Make sure your hair and nails are trimmed and that your clothing is conservative and well kept. Shoes should be shined and a match for your suit or dress (which should be clean and pressed), and if you usually wear a lot of jewelry and/or cologne or perfume, you are better off without it for the interview.
6. When you first meet your interviewer face-to-face, make sure to smile and greet them with a handshake that is firm but not too strong – it is not a contest of strength.
7. Listen carefully to the questions you are asked and remember that most interviewers are trained to spot evasiveness and deception. Answer honestly, with confidence.
8. Following the interview, thank your interviewer for their time, not only in person but with a follow-up letter or email as well.
