Get Hired – Top Ten Actions the Winners Take
- They use a professional resume writer, as they know this is the mission critical part of their job hunt.

- Their resumes are always ready for great opportunities that will arise.

- They have a growing collection of recommendation letters as they have a passion for what they do.

- They keep in touch with their business & personal references.

- They have a well rehearsed elevator pitch for networking, as fortune rewards the bold.

- They send Thank you letters after interviews and get remembered for that professional follow up.

- They send follow up letters and make follow up phone calls if the letter gets no response.

- They have a professional Linkedin profile with connections, endorsements and a picture.

- They never use generic resumes but professionally written targeted resumes and compelling cover letters.

- They are always sowing new networking seeds, so they can harvest them when needed.

- They project a professional image in person and on the internet with Facebook, Linked in and a Google search of their name.

- They definitely don’t use the help wanted ads to find work more than one third of the time

- They invest in and market more than just one in demand skill/talent/ability. Jobs may come and go but they can’t take your education and skills away. Think about this for a moment, if you were targeting 3 different career positions with 3 different targeted resumes wouldn’t you have more interviews and get hired a lot faster?

- If they have special issues and challenges they use experts like Rita Ashley, an expert job coach of job search debugged or Janet White author of "Secrets of the Hidden Job Market". They often use recruiters as they know that two heads are better than one. You still can’t beat teamwork. (I’m not affiliated with either in any way, but my clients tell me both are great!)

- They often have a two to three times the networking connections as regular folks as they are members of groups like: A large local Church, BNI, the Italian-American Club, The local country club where they play golf or tennis, or they volunteer for a local charity like Habitat for Humanity. They also have learned how to work a room, some may know this instinctively.

Why do they use expert help like resume writers, job coaches, recruiters and great job hunting books? Mostly because they know they will benefit greatly by avoiding the financial and mental drain of a long protracted period of unemployment. Consider this for moment just one of those people may have a connection that can get you a great job. Naturally, the competition is probably using these services if it is a career with above $30,000 per year earnings potential.

If you were a mortgage broker or mortgage banker in Detroit, Michigan which happens to have 22% unemployment right now you would also agree that having just one highly specialized skill is not good enough to get hired quick anymore. Yes, you can get by, but two highly demanded skills are better as they are what set you apart. Let’s face it the mortgage business died some time in December 2005 on top of that much of the business has migrated online where the lowest costs and rates are widely available.

Oddly enough one of the most important secrets to becoming successfully employed is living with an attitude of gratitude. Showing it at your interview is truly impressive. It is so refreshing to see another kindred spirit often times it is enough to boost you above other candidates in the race to get hired. This is because real successful businessmen and managers for the most part are people who have a positive outlook even in the face of adversity. This focus on the positive is exactly what gave them the perseverance to become managers. So if you truly want to get hired start acting like it.

So finally isn’t it time you recognize, in order to be a winner you have to think, talk and act like a winner?

They focus on getting interviews, not being busy.
