Finding a Second Job – Where to Start
Apr 10th, 2009 | By Bill | Category: Employment NewsIf you are considering getting a second job, do you know where to start or how to go about juggling two jobs?
Before you start looking for a second job, consider how much time you really have for a second job, and if having a second job might impact negatively on your current job. Be completely honest with yourself. You don’t want to find yourself jeopardizing your main job because of conflicting hours or late nights in your second job.
Once you are sure of the time you can spare, look at your skills. Many companies frown upon moonlighting amongst their staff and getting a second job in the same field could cause problems for you too. So rather look for work in another field, which can earn you an income on your untapped skills.
When you decide what field you want to work in, discuss this with your friends and family and see what they have to say. You might even find work through them, whether it be some weekend bookkeeping for a friend, or home maintenance for a family member.
Next, join a decent recruitment agency…many of them are tailored to provide part time work and you could find a very lucrative job through an agency. Also, you don’t have to be unemployed to get help from an unemployment agency – discuss your options with someone from one of these agencies.
Before you know it, you will be paying your bills with ease, and have a little extra cash to spend too. Just make sure you pay your bills first! Falling behind on a payment is bad news. For example, if you miss a home insurance payment or two, and then need to make a claim, your home insurance provider could use the non-payment as a reason to not pay you out.
