What’s the Best Part Time

Many people working these days are in debt. The answer to the debt dilemma is of course, make more money and spend less. For those who are spending only on necessities, the answer could be a part time job. For those who are already working two jobs, the answer could be, find a better paying part time job.

Working from home is ideal, because it eliminates the costs of traveling to the job and clothing costs, saves time in preparing for and traveling to work, and, if one has children, eliminates childcare costs. Typically home-based businesses and jobs where you can work from home promise big money, but often don’t deliver. Sometimes they require an investment. What then is the key to finding flexibility and decent pay?

Outsourcing. There are many companies who outsource jobs. More and more types of jobs are being outsourced, such as word processing, paralegal work, accounting work, secretarial work, to name a few. Jobs are outsourced because it saves money, and more and more companies are turning to this solution to increase their bottom line. Companies don’t have to pay benefits, provide equipment, and a work space to someone who works from home. They don’t have the headaches of hiring. They don’t have to deal with personality issues that are inevitable in large offices. They can choose to use the extra help of an outsource labor pool as needed.

If you are the type of person who doesn’t require supervision, if you have a computer and an internet connection, and a few hours a day to devote to work, look into becoming part of an outsourcing labor pool.

Some outsource labor pools require background checks, such as paralegal and legal secretarial. Most require several years previous experience, so don’t expect to be given corporate paralegal work if you haven’t worked as a corporate paralegal.

Although many jobs pay by the hour, some pay a certain amount for a certain assignment. When given an assignment, you’re usually given an estimate as to how long it should take and when it is due back to the client. If you are over your head and the assignment takes you longer, there may be an adjustment in your pay. Remember, you are working unsupervised, so you are expected to know what you are doing. All your work will be reviewed by someone before it is sent on to the client, but if you don’t know what you are doing, you will not be given more work. So be honest about what your experience is, and when you get your first assignment, work carefully, double check your work, and be open to any criticism or corrections, to ensure that more work will come your way.
