I've been interviewing 2 very savvy marketing guys in a job search campaign (along with one very savvy recruiter) - you can listen to their first interview here http://www.landed.fm/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=345&Itemid=154 - rather than sending a FedEx letter - Darryl has sent a "coffee kit" containing a coffee cup from a trendy coffee house in Canada, a coupon from the coffee house for a free cup, a personal invitation to "get together for a coffee", and some other clever and cheap marketing materials. His response rate has been off the charts (there's a picture of his kit on the above link). Part of the beauty - it's an odd-shaped square box - so it won't get put in the pile with all the other express envelopes!
